Building
The Educational Center with the Film Park is being built at 21 Chełmska Street (along Kierbedzia Street). It will be open to Warsaw residents and all visitors to the capital city interested in Polish cinematography and film.
The facility will be divided into three functional zones: a film education zone, an exhibition and workshop zone, and a catering zone. Additionally, it will house a screening room for 150 people, a media library with audio library, catering facilities, office and administrative facilities with a social area. The northeastern wing of the building will house the film education section, while the southwestern wing will house the exhibition and workshop section.
It represents a departure from the common forms of buildings designed in the style of "glass houses". In Warsaw itself, it will be one of the few buildings constructed in this way in recent years.
Another innovation lies in the use of simple, natural boards in the spirit of Bauhaus, minimalism, and Scandinavian architecture. Instead of decorative details, the architects utilize the rhythm, texture, and natural color of the wood, creating a modern, geometric, and clean-cut structure.
The façade is composed of vertical panels made of bright wood, emphasizing harmony with nature in the spirit of Scandinavian style. Numerous, horizontally arranged glazing ensures maximum amount of natural light throughout the interior.
A subdued color palette—natural wood, white, and graphite—completes the overall design, blending harmoniously with its green surroundings.
The choice of the façade made of natural spruce wood boards offers a number of environmental benefits:
- Wood is the only fully renewable construction material.
- Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during their growth process. Using wood in construction effectively locks this carbon within the building's structure for decades.
- The production and processing of wooden elements requires significantly less energy compared to materials such as concrete, steel, or aluminum; significantly reducing the project's carbon footprint.
- Wood itself has excellent thermal insulation properties, which naturally contributes to reducing the energy demand for heating and cooling the building.
The air gap between the boards and the wall acts as a thermal buffer, protecting the building from overheating in summer and cooling in winter. Additionally, it ensures constant moisture removal, extending the life of the entire structure.
the barrier
Eliminating barriers is particularly important in order to design the building fully accessible to people with disabilities, seniors, and anyone who experiences mobility challenges. Wide doors, adequate maneuvering space, and well-designed lighting make the entrance to the building comfortable and safe for everyone. Elevators located on each floor and threshold-free corridors with an intuitive layout also ensure freedom of movement.
